My Three Power Foods
In my quest to find products that are natural and will give me long lasting energy/benefits I have experimented with plenty of “wonder” foods/products. However, there seem to be three products that always reappear in my eating routine. We all know “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” so why am I wasting my time trying to find my “miracle” product when I already know what works for me? That being said I have reintroduced three products into my daily routine and I have already noticed how my energy level has skyrocketed. Below I’ve provided a description of the three fail proof products that I always end up running back to.
These tiny seeds pack a powerful punch! Not only can they help you slim down, they can help you tough out a run, and even improve your skin (win-win-win, if you ask me!). Chia seeds’ soluble fiber slows digestion, ultimately keeping you energized and full longer. I mix 2 teaspoons in my breakfast smoothie or oatmeal to power up before my morning workout. I notice I’m able to “give one more” much easier and I still have energy leftover to keep up with my little one well into the late afternoon.
I know it’s creepy to think there is something LIVING in your yogurt, but these healthy bacteria do wonders for your digestive system. Probiotics have been linked to all sorts of health benefits, from helping with irritable bowel syndrome and traveler’s diarrhea to boosting the immune system. These mighty microbes favor fat burning over fat storage. This means that after eating a greek yogurt packed with lactobacillus, the bacteria goes straight to your gut which in turn, helps your body digest, and “kick out” all the bad stuff trapped in your digestive system. So if you’re looking to get your gut back in line and feeling normal/regular again this is your golden ticket! To find these friendly fat fighters look for lactobacillus on greek yogurt labels, or pick up a bottle of Acidophilus Digestive Support Caplets from CVS. I love Fage brand Greek yogurt or Chobani Greek yogurt. There is also probiotics in daily Shakeology.
The holy grail of healthy, leafy stuff is invading menus and store shelves everywhere! If you’re like me you’re probably thinking to yourself “yea ok, I’ve heard this before. Eat my vegetables.” But kale is not your typical vegetable; kale is a WONDER veggie! Not only has kale been recognized as providing comprehensive support for the body’s detoxification system, kale’s flavonoids combine both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits; perfect for top notch athletes who don’t have time for chronic inflammation or oxidative stress. To get all of its special cholesterol-lowering benefits try steaming kale or baking kale chips (stems and center ribs get discarded). I like to put kale on fresh whole-grain bread with some hummus, avocado slices, and grated parmesan cheese.
