Having Boundaries, a Schedule & an Independent Business Mindset Hey Team Refinery Coaches!! I've had to do a lot of thinking and reevaluating this past weekend. I've always been proud to say I have sacrificed little family life to build a Beachbody business. BUT some months I worked a TON! And I felt like my life was getting out of balance.
I absolutely LOVE Beachbody, but one of the MAIN things on my mind is always making this duplicatable for you guys. And for me to work a massive amount of time every single day isn't duplicatable! Some of you are stay at home moms and many of you work other jobs during the day. I don't want anyone to see me working a lot of hours and think, "I could never do that!" or "I don't WANT to do that!" The fact is you CAN set limits and still succeed in this business with a LARGE business and NOT have to sacrifice all your family time for Beachbody.
One of the things I think about along those lines of making this DUPLICATABLE is the amount of time I spend each day answering questions that can easily be found through other resources. Honestly, I feel I have done some of you a disservice by being readily available to answer questions!
MY OWN MISTAKES
I clearly remember when I signed up as a coach I thought Lindsay's job was to be my own personal Beachbody google service. haha. I would send her a bazillion and a half questions and guess what? SHE DIDN'T ANSWER THEM RIGHT AWAY. If you've ever sent Lindsay a message you know that she responds to messages ONCE a day, IF at all. And if you miss that window of opportunity when she is checking messages, or if you respond back immediately with another question, you have to wait until tomorrow to get another reply. It's like taking a number at the deli counter...you used your number....NEXT in LINE! ha!
Another thing was searching for her approval and recognition for many things I had posted, written in groups, contributed or achieved. I was new and wanted to be sure I was doing things well and in a way that she approved and appreciated.
I had an EMPLOYEE mindset. I wanted the validation from my "boss" or sponsor. Thats how employees think because we are taught that recognition improves our chances for job security and validates our efforts. Business minds don't look for attention or approval. They look for SOLUTIONS and RESULTS.
By her not giving her validation to me, it HELPED me. Why? Because I had to realize that I had to follow my GUT and TRUST my intuition. Through trial and error, I got RESULTS.
Not gonna lie, it bugged me at the time. But it was SO GOOD for me because I quickly learned if I wanted an answer to something I had to go figure it out for myself. And the process of having to "figure it out" has helped me get to where I am now. And if I wanted recognition for something, instead of expecting or looking for it, I would assertively JUST ASK HER POLITELY for it.
THE BOTTOM LINE
I encourage you to come to me as your leader, but from now on my PERSONAL POLICY is for you to exhaust every option to find your answer. If you do not find your answer via google, FAQ's (there's a link at the bottom of your coach online office for FAQs), Coach Relations, my you tube videos, my SeayStanford.com search tool, Refinery FILES, or the Refinery Team page search button in the top right hand corner (chances are it's been asked before), then please post the question in the team page. Then others will also be able to LEARN at the same time you are!
My intention is for you ALL to eventually grow AWAY from me, to be independent leaders. I want to teach you to MANAGE your BUSINESS, not let IT MANAGE YOU. I will always continue to INVEST 100% in my entire team. But I don't want people to rely on me as their only source of information and emotional support. Nor do I want you to teach YOUR coaches that behavior. It will only cripple your potential if that is the case!
I want my role (and yours as your team grows) to be spending time talking goals, strategizing, placement, teaching tips & encouraging and leading through specific coach and team situations! I want to help empower you to be LEADERS & by setting this personal policy, I am showing you how to lead your OWN TEAMS effectively, as well. I run live calls every week, so I expect those working their business, asking me questions and wanting my time and attention, to BE ON THOSE CALLS.
Answering questions that can be found is not DUPLICATABLE... and I do not want ANYONE to feel that they need to do that.
I found most of my validation by reading personal development books to increase my confidence, business leader books to improve my leadership skills and networked with fellow coaches that matched my vision, pace and business level to mastermind and brainstorm ideas. I found a lot of my emotional support though my friends, family and fellow coaches.
Nothing but love and sound business advice for you guys, Let's FLY!
